May Day celebrates the struggles and the achievements of Working People across our Region.
May Day had its birth from the eight hour movement of the 1800’s where Australian workers first won the right to shorter working hours, a first in the world. Today this is an entitlement that is enshrined in law.
Since then Working People have continued to push the envelope for better wages, working conditions and community standards.
From winning Universal Health Care to payed Parental Leave to the many other standards and conditions Australian Workers and their Families deserve and expect.
2017 focus is to “Take Back Our Rights” with many of the hard won achievements being stripped back or under attack by conservative governments.
The Hunter Workers May Day dinner will be followed by Our annual May Day March on Sunday 30th April, 10am at Hamilton.
