Around a million workers face the threat of losing key rights as the Coalition signals intent to expand the definition of a small business if elected.
Under the proposed changes, businesses with up to 25 employees—rather than the current 15—would be classified as small businesses, allowing employers to withhold entitlements like unfair dismissal protections, protections against wage theft, job security measures, and more from workers.
The change would be an enormous blow to workers and their families, who face less pay and less job security.
The Coalition’s support for this proposal comes on the heels of a push by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a big business lobby group.
While Peter Dutton claims to be "for workers," his stance clearly favours big business at the expense of working people.
The Coalition has already confirmed their intention to roll back pay-boosting new rights brought in by the Albanese Labor government, including same job, same pay, and rights for casual workers.
Despite just coming into effect, the right to disconnect is also on Dutton’s chopping block.
