The Albanese Labor government has introduced new legislation that will provide better protections to Commonwealth frontline workers who are increasingly experiencing violence and aggression just for doing their job.
Commonwealth workers help the Australian community access essential government services like Centrelink, the ATO, passport offices, airports and the Australian Electoral Commission. They staff service centres and call centres across Australia and are among the first on the scene to assist following emergencies and natural disasters.
The legislation implements a recommendation of a review into the safety of Commonwealth workers following the stabbing attack of an airport worker in May last year.
Every worker deserves to be safe at work!
