University of Newcastle receives $20.7 million for future industries, boosting regional development

The Federal Government is funding the development of a future industries facility at the University of Newcastle, priming the region for a thriving industrial transition.

The investment will fund technology development and innovation while upskilling workers in the energy, resources and manufacturing sectors for the net-zero economy.

The funding is part of the government's regional precincts and partnerships program that will contribute more than $160 million annually to the Hunter region's economy and create 740 direct and indirect jobs.

Investing in the Hunter’s future industries is critical to securing a prosperous future for our communities, creating the quality, well-paid jobs workers need and deserve as our local economy transitions and develops.

But our future is at risk.

The Coalition’s proposal to scrap offshore wind in favour of nuclear power is underpinned by a chilling plan to shut down the local aluminium sector and suppress burgeoning new industry just as traditional industry declines, abandoning workers and communities.

Our jobs, our communities, and our future are at risk. Don’t risk Dutton.
